How to Use Safari Password Manager to Secure Your Online Accounts

If you use Safari as your web browser, you may not be aware of a handy feature that can help you manage and protect your online accounts. Safari Password Manager is a built in tool that lets you store, autofill, and generate strong passwords for the websites you visit. In this article, we’ll explain what Safari Password Manager is, how to access it, and how to use it effectively.

What is Safari Password Manager?

Safari Password Manager is a feature that allows you to save the usernames and passwords you use to log in to various websites. When you visit a website that requires a login, Safari can automatically
fill in your credentials for you, saving you time and hassle. You can also view and edit your saved passwords in Safari settings, and sync them across your Apple devices using iCloud Keychain.

Safari Password Manager also helps you create secure passwords for new accounts. When you sign up for a website, Safari will suggest a strong, random password that is hard to guess or crack. You don’t have to remember it, as Safari will store it for you and fill it in when needed. This way, you can avoid using weak or reused passwords that could compromise your online security.

How to find Safari passwords

Open Safari and click on the Safari menu in the upper left corner of the screen.

Select Preferences from the drop down menu.

Click on the Passwords tab in the Preferences window.

Enter your Mac user password or use Touch ID to unlock the password manager.

You will see a list of websites, usernames, and passwords that are saved in Safari. You can search, sort, edit, or delete them as you
wish.

You can also click on the key icon next to the password field to generate a strong password for a new account.

To access Safari Password Manager on your iPhone or iPad, follow these steps:

Open the Settings app and tap on Passwords.

Enter your device passcode or use Face ID or Touch ID to unlock the password manager.

You will see a list of websites, usernames, and passwords that are
saved in Safari. You can search, edit, or delete them as you wish.

You can also tap on the + icon in the upper right corner to add a new password manually.

How to Use Safari Password Manager

Safari Password Manager is a convenient and secure way to manage your
online accounts, but there are some tips and best practices you
should follow to make the most of it. Here are some suggestions:

Enable iCloud Keychain to sync your passwords across your Apple devices. This way, you can access your passwords from any device you own, and keep them updated automatically. To enable iCloud Keychain, go to Settings > Apple ID > iCloud > Keychain and toggle it on.

Use Safari’s password generator to create strong passwords for new accounts. This will help you avoid using weak or reused passwords that could put your online security at risk. To use Safari’s password
generator, tap on the key icon next to the password field when signing up for a website, and accept the suggested password.

Review your saved passwords regularly and update them if needed. You can use Safari’s password audit feature to identify weak or compromised passwords and change them with one click.

To use Safari’s password audit feature, go to Safari > Preferences > Passwords on your Mac, or Settings > Passwords on your iPhone or iPad, and look for the yellow warning icons next to the passwords. Click or tap on them to see more details and change the passwords.

Don’t share your passwords with anyone or write them down. Safari Password Manager keeps your passwords encrypted and secure, but if you share them with someone else or write them down somewhere, you could expose them to hackers or thieves. If you need to share a password with someone you trust, use a secure method such as AirDrop or iMessage.
